A GeV at CERN SPS
The measurement of multiple strange particles provides information on the hadronization features of strongly interacting matter produced in heavy ion collisions. If we assume that a deconfinement phase transition occurs in a heavy ion collision, we have to look for qualitative changes (onset phenomena) when varying external parameters like system size and energy density. Therefore we study the ...
متن کاملThe Ratio of the Direct Photon Production Cross Section at 630 GeV and at 1800 GeV
We measure the ratio of the isolated direct photon prodution cross section at √ s = 630 GeV to that at √ s = 1800 GeV for the central (|η| < 0.9) and forward (1.6 < |η| < 2.5) rapidity regions. We compare the result with next to leading order QCD predictions using CTEQ parton distribution functions.
متن کاملThe n_TOF Facility at CERN: Performances and First Physics Results
The neutron Time of Flight (n_TOF) facility at CERN is a source of a wide-range (1 eV<En<250 MeV) flux of neutrons, generated by spallation of 20-GeV/c protons onto a solid lead target. The goal of the n_TOF is to provide unprecedented precision in neutron kinetic energy determination, which will in turn bring the much-needed precision in neutron-induced cross-section measurements. The unique f...
متن کاملTagging two-photon production at the CERN Large Hadron Collider
Tagging two-photon interactions offers a significant extension of the CERN LHC physics program. The effective luminosity of high-energy gg collisions reaches 1% of the proton-proton luminosity. The standard detector techniques used for measuring very forward proton scattering will allow a reliable separation of interesting two-photon interactions. Particularly exciting is the possibility of det...
